Feature | How Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi's past, present and future can be found in Fantasian
"I would like to continue giving birth to something new before I perish."
The release of Fantasian Neo Dimension was something of a full circle moment for Hironobu Sakaguchi. Final Fantasy's creator left Square Enix back in 2003 and founded his own studio, Mistwalker, where he's since continued making RPGs. Fantasian, in 2021, was one such release, but remained exclusive to Apple Arcade until last year's re-release - published by none other than Square Enix.

Now Playing | Animal Crossing museum obsessives now have a clicker game that's ideal
And a bit about trowel envy.
Digseum is a new clicker game - one of those games where you click madly on things while the numbers go up - that Steam recommended to me last week. The timing was perfect. I'd just finished installing the final art work in my Animal Crossing museum, and here was a brand new museum to fill with trinkets and doodads pulled from the earth.

Of twists and turns.
For a brief period, either in the 1950s or 1960s, Charles Schulz experimented with drawing adults in the backgrounds of Peanuts comic strips. I wish I could track down the one strip I've seen like this to explain it better - if anyone's seen my copy of Peanuts: A Golden Celebration, could they drop me a line? Anyway, Charlie Brown and Linus are on a golf course, I think, and there are these adults, never fully in frame because the kids are so small, and the adults are moving around, standing in the background, forming a sort of human topiary of arms and legs and torsos.

The most glaring issues addressed, but there's still work to be done.
After some impressive upgrades to PS5 Pro games with the implementation of PSSR machine learning-based upscaling, post-launch issues started to emerge and several games we tested exhibited some serious issues. Foremost amongst them was Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, where RT upgrades were marred by foliage strobing so bad, we had no idea how the patch escaped quality control.

Feature | What we've been playing - great escapes, unexpected ends, and Salem Socks
A few of the things that have us hooked this week.
Hello and welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little bit about some of the games we've been playing this week. Digital Foundry | Switch 2's reveal: what have we learned about its next-gen potential?
Nintendo's teaser gave very little away.
DF Direct Weekly arrives early - but with good cause. With Nintendo finally revealing the Switch 2, the Digital Foundry team spends a good hour discussing what we've learned from the two minute teaser and, equally, what is still to be revealed. The key question I've been thinking about is this: did we see a proper generational leap from the Mario Kart demo we saw compared to the existing Switch's Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? In fact, did we see any hint of the advanced Nvidia technologies that have commanded so much of the Switch 2 discourse? I'd argue not.
